Know he was loved...
I have always found in times of passing that songs will come to me when I think
of those who pass. Sometimes it is the same song as others sometimes it is
unique in my life thus far...Grumpy brought a song from my past back to me and I
wish to share it with others now. I have placed it on my website for a while in
WMV format. Grumpy...I salute you for the life you lived and the example of it
you gave. Rest easy warrior of The Way...

RIP Grumpy
I didn't know Grumpy very well, but like many others I knew and enjoyed the mods
created with his wonderful scripts and the mods he created himself. The Morrowind
community will miss him very much. I will miss him. My condolences to his family

He only takes the best
This is for you Dennis, your family, and Emma "hugs"
"He Only Takes The Best"
God saw you getting tired,
And a cure was not to be,
So he put his arms around you,
And whispered, "Come with me",
We watched you suffer,
And we saw you fade away,
Although we loved you dearly,
We could not make you stay,
A golden heart stopped beating,
Hard working hands at rest,
God broke our hearts to prove,
He only takes the best;
It's lonesome here without you,
We miss you more every day,
Life doesn't seem the same,
Since you've gone away;
When days are sad and lonely,
And everything goes wrong,
We seem to hear you whisper,
"Cheer up carry on".
Each time we see your picture;
You seem to smile and say,
"Don't cry, I'm in God's keeping,
We'll meet again some day".
All my best wishes and sympathy to you Emma, and those whom were close to
Dennis, he touched many lives and will never be forgotton.
Love Diana

Rest well Grumpy
Grumpy
Grumpy, i pray that when you get to Heaven, you are finally able to reach
Morrowind in mind body and soul...
Grumpy will never be
forgotten
Brash and I are devasted at this news. We knew he was sick but we did not know
he was so close to death. Both of us have been affected by his generosity, his
kindness and his thoughtfulness and we will continue to cherish his memory as
long as we live.
When Grumpy and Emma's mod 'Constance' was released I wrote a dumb little post
in the release thread and to my surprise Grumpy sent me the only PM I've ever
received from him. It read:
"Thanks for the compliments...
Dennis"
Now that he's gone that PM means more to me than I ever would have believed
possible. I have made a permanent copy of it onto my hard drive, right there
alongside my copies of PMs and emails Brash sent me when we fell in love.
I know his family is grieving. I hope they realize how deeply he touched so many
of us who play and mod Morrowind and how much we will miss him. We will never
forget Grumpy.

Grumpy's Companion mod was one of my favorite mods. I even used his template to
create my own companions, I dont think i would have beated Morrowind without
them. So in a sence, Grumpy was helping me with my adventures. Grumpy will
forever live on our hearts, memories and ofcourse his mods.
Rest in peace.

From Mireneye
Ill speak truthfully, I personally did not know him much or at all, I knew he
existed, I knew he made wonderful work by reading and keeping myself informed,
by the years i've seen his posts many times. When I say that I believe that he
was one of the Pioneers of Morrrowind, Im certain im not pushing the words to
far. And not only to the game itself, he was constantly developing within
himself, he along with the rest of the community grew, and unfortunately as
everything that grows has an end, he has just came to meet it.
I've seen this happen 3 times now, on other forums. Everytime people say how
much they miss him and how much they feel sorrow. However, if you think for
yourself a moment, would Grumpy actually think that you should feel sorry for
him, or be happy for the time we all could spend together and the time he could
help you, he wished for our good, and I wish for his good now, lets be happy for
him. Even thou crying for the loss. Lets all be happy for the time he spent here,
and the love he gave....
And the love we recieved.
Cheers Grumpy, You'll continue to live in our hearts.
R.I.P.
Rest in Peace, Grumpy.
You will be missed.

Thank you
Thank you, Grumpy, for your continued contribution to the world of Morrowind.
Your work raised the standard for artificial intelligence in Morrowind companion
behavior to a new level. One of the few people who didn't work for the fame and
glory but for the joy and pleasure it provides by giving something to other
people. Grumpy has never been possessive of his work, he always granted people
all the rights to use his work as base for their own mods. His work has been and
still is used in numerous other projects, so it will never be forgotten as long
as people are playing Morrowind.
I regret for not having the chance to get to know you closer.

Contributions
RIP Grumpy. Emma, we are all tied together by something amazing, Morrowind. We
greive for your, and Grumpy's family's loss.
An example to us all
I really hope that this guestbook finds its way into the hands of his friends
and family. I want them to know that he didn't just touch their lives, but
touched the lives of literally thousands (that's no exaggeration) of people who
download and use Morrowind mods.
It wasn't just the innovation and creativity that he displayed, nor the
inspiration that he gave to others to improve the whole game beyond the
imaginations of its creators.
It was the enduring generosity of spirit and warmth of character, blended with a
refreshing sense of humour and courage - right to the last - that made us all
hope that we could be just a little more like "Dennis aka Grumpy".
In the regrettably few "private message" exchanges we had on scripting
matters, he displayed patience and humility, always eager to lend a hand and say
"Do what you want with my scripts" or offer some expert advice. Facing
the most difficult time in his life, he would take time out to help others and
really make sure that we understood the minutae of Morrowind coding. This was
just a few short weeks ago. I couldn't even begin to imagine the fortitude of
character it took him to behave with such grace and kindness to people who
frankly had absolutely no idea what he was going through.
I thought many times about contacting him over the last few weeks, but saw that
he had stepped down the amount of time he had been spending on these boards. In
all honesty, I really would not have known what to say.
That Dennis had spoken to Emma so recently shows what a place this community of
ours had in his heart. I can only hope that he had some small measure of an idea
of what place he has in ours.

Blessed Journey

Godspeed Grumpy
God looked around his Garden and found an empty place.
He then looked down upon his earth and saw your loving face.
He put his arms around you and lifted you to rest.
His Garden must be beautiful, he always takes the best.
He knew that you were suffering, he knew you were in pain.
And knew that you would never get well on earth again.
He saw your path was difficult, he closed you tired eyes,
He whispered to you "Peace be Thine" and gave you wings to fly.
When we saw you sleeping so calm and free of pain,
We would not wish you back to earth to suffer once again.
You've left us precious memories, your love will be our guide,
You live on through your invaluable mods, you're always by our side, your
companions will help us never to forget.
It broke our hearts to lose you, but you did not go alone.
For part of us went with you on the day God called you home.

So Long, and Thanks
for All the Help!
Not sure we ever spoke, but sometimes you don't have to see somebody firsthand
to know of their greatness. True greatness is achieved when others tell people
about you first, without inducement. I've read the responses, and seen the
results of the work done...and even without that, I would know that a great
light has merely moved on--never truly gone out, as none who are friends truly
leave us.
Catch you on the flip side, and may all your other loved ones be there to greet
you.

Goodbye Dear Grumpy
Grumpy was one of the 'greats', probably the greatest.
His scripting and mods will forever live on within the Morrowind community.
A fitting tribute to a great and kindly man who was a wonderful modder.
He will always be remembered in our hearts.
My fondest memory of Grumpy will always be when we met up in the chat room at
CI's old forum
where I teased him unmercifully and virtually sat on his knee. He took it all in
good part and came out
with some of the dry wit and humour for which he was renowned.
RIP dear Grumpy.

A selfless man
The modding experience that Grumpy was involved with is but a small example of
the kind of person that he was. His posts always denoted a friendly and kind
attitude and his mods, especially his companion mods, reflected a reaching out
towards other people. While I feel like a newbie in the Morrowind community I
feel as though a piece of me has been removed forever. Grumpy was a giant and
may his family and friends be comforted and may he ascend to higher and loftier

It's too sad to comprehend someone in our forums passing, and to depressing to
know someone is gone, especially someone with his skills and abilities. He was a
great modder, and a grand friend to everybody. He will be missed. I'm sorry that
I couldn't say goodbye to him, but I think he is smiling down on us, smiling
from above. I offer my condolences to his family and friends. Grumpy will be
missed, but his legacy as a modder and as a human being will live on.
Goodbye Grumpy.
In memory of a gentle
soul
I'll always remember Dennis. His witty humor, kind words and advice, and always
helpful attitude. While his passing is very sad news, I'm happy to have known
him and I'm glad for all the time he did get to spend with us and his wonderful
gifts for the Morrowind Community.
I'll always remember "Grumpy" as one of the guys in the back room,
ready to lend an ear and help out however he could. I find myself still
chuckling at some of those discussions.
If there were more people on this earth like Dennis, the world would be a much
better place indeed. Heaven has a new star tonight.

Condolences ...
Grumpy was a great modder and good friend who will be sorely missed. I never
heard him say an unkind word, and he always treated others with respect. He
helped me on many occasions with companion scripts, even for personal mods. He
was generous with his time and always ready to lend a hand. And I don't know how
anyone can make a readme funny, but he always seemed to be able to do so.
His family and friends are in my prayers.
My Condolences
I don't think that words can express exactly how this makes me feel. While I
never really knew him, Grumpy affected all modders and mod users in the
Morrowind comunity profoundly. Many mods would never have come into existance if
not for Grumpy. Some times it strikes one how unappreciative one has really been
towards someone untill they are gone. I appreciate you Grumpy, and thank you for
all you have given to this community. Rest in peace Grumpy, you will be missed.

I never really got to know Grumpy personally, but I had exchanged plenty of PMs

My condolences
Any such loss for family and friends is terrible, I only hope this last year has
been as painless as possible. Grumpy was a great man evidenced by his words and
thoughts he was so kind enough to share with us all. To think he continued to
share his scripting skills, inspirations, and knowledge shows both his great
spirit and heart. That despite the difficulties of the past year he continued to
actively be a part of this community humbles me. Morrowind is only a game, yet
it has been people such as Grumpy who helped make this such a great community,
full of vibrant ideas, energetic thoughts, and many friends. I offer my deepest
sympathy and prayers to you Emma, all those who knew him, and his family. God
bless you Grumpy, may you know everlasting peace.

Goodbye Grumpy
I told Grumpy once that his (and Emma's) work made Morrowind a less lonely place.
He will be missed, for his modding work, but even more for his dry sense of
humour and willingness to help other people.
Rest in peace, Grumpy...
In Memory
We exchanged a couple of e-mails involving the minor disaster that was my first
companion mod using his template. He was patient, helpful, kind..... not just in
that one instance, all the time. That he would be taken from us like this is
almost too cruel to bear.
Goodbye, Grumpy, and thank you for everything.

You shall not be
forgotten ...
To hear of your passing has filled me with deep sorrow, even though we never
knew each other. But part of you will always be with us when we are wandering
through Morrowind, one of the many companions you created or helped create at
our side. You will not be forgotten.
Thank you for all that you have shared with us, Grumpy.
May you rest in peace ...
R.I.P.
This news sadden me so deeply. Emma, this must be so horrible for you and for
his family. I deeply feel for your loss, for the loss of the Morrowind community.
He gave so much to us, I really hope we could give a little bit back to this man
who made our virtual world so much richer.
Rest in peace, Grumpy, whereever you are!

Goodbye dear friend
Grumpy, thank you for the time we spent online together. You've touched many
lives in the MW community and made things better.
I hope things are going well where you are. I'll see you when I get there -I may
be a little late though. I hope they let you mod up there!

We will miss you
dearly.
You were a great inspiration to me, Grumpy, not only in your excellent modding
but also in your thoughtful, helpful and amusing attitude towards others.
Thankyou for all you have given to us, and the high standards you have set.
May you live on in your creations.

My Playing Partner
His scripts were a work of art, giving life to NPCs and letting people enjoy the
game with a friend. He was the life behind those in-game friendships, and as
long as MW players load his mods, he will never truely be gone from us.
Thank you for being an inspiration to us all.

R.I.P Grumpy, you are
Never Forgotten!
In the few exchanges i ever had with Grumpy, over getting help with my
Retextures, I could tell that he was a kind, considerate man as he had taken the
time to help me while others had not. He was one of the greatest modding/Scripting
Geniuses ever. Wherever you are Grumpy, remeber this, You are never forgotten
and you will live on in the memory and Hearts of those you helped and touched.
My Heart is with your family and relatives at this moment
In Loving Memory of Grumpy (realname unknown)

Deepest Sympathy
I'm saddened to hear about Grumpy passing away. It wasn’t unexpected but
nevertheless it’s a hard blow to you, to his family and also to the Elder
Scrolls community. Take care Emma and may Grumpy’s spirit guide your modding
hand.
We’ll miss ya Grumpy.

Oh... my... God...
This is such a terrible terrible thing to happen. Grumpy was an amazing modder
and practically the father of modern companion mods. I never knew him personally
but this still impacts me greatly. The Morrowind community has lost a great man.
My condolences to you Emma and the rest of Grumpy's family.

In Loving Memory Of
Grumpy
On the afternoon of June 17th, Grumpy passed away.
This was not unexpected. He was diagnosed with cancer almost a year ago, and he
had known since October last year that it was terminal. Still, when the disease
got worse, it came as a shock - the prognosis was that he would be here for at
least another year. But, cancer is cruel and unpredictable. He got rapidly worse
in the beginning of May, and after the release of our Companion Constance, he
was forced to retire from modding.
Grumpy and I have stayed in touch the whole time, and I spoke to him as late as
on the evening before he died. One of the last things he said to me was that he
had so much enjoyed these past three years of modding, and that he particularly
valued all the friends he had made in the MW-community.
Grumpy and I have known each other for almost three years, and as time has
passed by, I have more and more realized what an exceptional person he has been.
In spite of his angry-looking avatar, he was one of the kindest, most warm
hearted, generous and helpful persons I have ever known, and not even the cancer
could impair his high spirit and his positive view of life and mankind. I am so
grateful to have had the privilege of knowing him, so grateful for his
friendship. He has meant so much to me, and in my heart he will live on for the
rest of my life.
There are people who wear you out and there are people who enrich you. Grumpy
was someone who enriched others, someone who gave to others just for the
pleasure of giving, someone who shared for the pleasure of sharing. His mods are
all proof of this. Rather than modding for "fame and glory", he
created templates for others to build on. So that everyone could benefit from
his work and use it for further improvements of Morrowind.
So, please, keep on building on his templates. That is how he wanted it, and
that is how it should remain. Just make sure that you add some credits to the
man who so generously shared his work with you.
